How to use Firepoint

Firepoint shows you a way out and the nearest open shelter, on one map.

  1. Set your start

Share your location, or enter an address or ZIP. Until then, routes start from Glendale City Hall.

  2. Follow the directions

The directions panel shows the route to the nearest open shelter. Press Go to open it in your maps app.

  3. Press Escape to get out

Escape finds the fastest way to an evacuation point, away from fires on the map.

  4. Mark a fire you can see

Use the fire button in the corner to show where a fire is. Your routes then steer around it.

    • Press and hold the fire, drag it to the spot on the map, and let go.
    • Or press it once to drop a fire at the centre of the map, then drag it into place.
    • To move a mark, drag it. To remove one, select it and choose Remove mark. Clear removes them all.

Marks stay on this device. They are not reports and no one else sees them. To report a fire, call 911.

  5. Get ready before a fire

Official sources & prep, at the top of the screen, has official alerts and a checklist of what to pack.

This app is not an all-clear. Always follow official evacuation orders. To report a fire, call 911.

Directions

Live fire data isn’t connected, so this is not an all-clear. Follow official orders; to report a fire, call 911.

The shaded red areas are your private fire marks: sketches, not reports or measured fire extents. The dotted yellow ring around each is its warning zone; the escape route leads beyond it. Shelters remain unverified.
